The Global Hospitality Outlook

Global business travel spending hit a record-breaking $1.2 trillion in 2015. The growth in the travel and tourism industry is outpacing the wider economy in 2016 for the 6th consecutive year. The industry created 292 million additional jobs, now representing 1 in 10 jobs worldwide, and generated 7.6 trillion USD (10.2% of global GDP), proving once again that travel and tourism is a crucial contributor to the world’s economy and a driver of global prosperity.

Why Study a Hospitality and Tourism programme?

My travel agency – Elite Ways Travel and Services, offers every service in the travel circles; airline ticketing, tours, hotel bookings, and transport – taxi tracks services. I started off by offering only one service, airline ticketing, and during this period my customers would always ask me how they will get to the airport and with that I decided to offer further services. From the commissions gained and the surcharges I was charging, I saved up to buy my first car at higher purchase from a local dealer. In no time I was able to use provide airport transfers and movements around the city. Right now, two years later, I have 9 cars fully paid. I am looking at upgrading the cars into comfortable cars/unique cars for my unique clients.

Strathmore really supported me because my business stemmed from a class project, for my Hospitality and Tourism course, and my lecturer really helped me grow it. I am also offered space by the university to operate my business; the management use my services and give me business.

There is nothing unique in offering transport services, but reliability and professionalism among my team stands out, and I get repeat clients. because of that. When you have a business idea, have a clear plan of what you want to do, and stay focused to it.
